On Monday 3 May, during the feast of our glorious patron, St George the Trophy-Bearer, our beloved shepherd in Christ, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, presided over the Divine Liturgy at our Holy Monastery. His Eminence was accompanied by His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis in addition to reverend clergy from the state of NSW, among them the Very Rev. Archimandrite Father Eusebius, Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Pantanassa (Mangrove Creek) and the Very Rev. Archimandrite Father Kyriakos Michael, former Abbot of our Monastery. Abbess Mother Philothei from the Sacred Monastery of the Holy Cross (Mangrove Mountain) was also present on this occasion, as was Mrs Martha A. Mavromatis, the Higher Commissioner of Cyprus in Australia.
His Eminence Archbishop Makarios ordained our very own Father Paisios Hatzigeorgiou to the holy diaconate during the service in the presence of the distinguished guests. The guests also included Father Paisios’ parents and members of the faithful from the wider Greek Orthodox community. His Eminence gave a moving sermon on the life and trials of St George before exhorting the Rev. Deacon to love our Lord and imitate His ministry, remembering that this will lead to the Resurrection even though it will be marked by trials and sacrifice.
We express our sincere gratitude and affection in Christ to: His Eminence for presiding over our feast and for his continued pastoral care and oversight; His Grace Bishop Iakovos, Father Eusebius, Father Kyriakos, Mother Philothei, and the reverend clergy for their support; and everyone who joined us in celebrating our patron and the ordination.
We take this opportunity to thank Το Βήμα της Εκκλησίας for the photos and wonderful news item in Greek, available here.
In Christ, The Very Rev. Abbot Father Ieronymos and the Brotherhood of the Monastery
