On Wednesday 17 July 2019, St George Monastery had the tremendous honour of welcoming for the first time His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, together with His gracious parents, Emmanuel and Photini. His Eminence was formally greeted by the Very Revered Abbot, Father Kyriakos, in addition to a small group of clergy and laity, among them the Very Reverend Fathers Christodoulos Economou (Parish of St Nicholas, Marrickville), Prohoros Anastasiadis (Parish of Sts Raphael, Nicholas, and Irene, Liverpool), and Apostolos Tryfillis (Parish of All Saints, Belmore), as well as the Reverend Father Athanasios Giatsios (Parish of St Catherine, Mascot). Having been given an icon of St George the Trophy Bearer in the Katholikon, His Eminence warmly addressed Father Kyriakos and the faithful before touring the grounds and blessing all in attendance by accompanying them for a modest meal.
