On Monday 28 December, the Holy Monastery of St George, Yellow Rock, was blessed to receive two young monks into its ranks, that is, the newly tonsured Fathers Paisios and Joseph, named in honour of the recent spiritual luminaries of Mt Athos, St Paisios the Athonite and St Joseph the Hesychast. The two novices awaited this solemn occasion with much joy. In the humble chapel of St John the Theologian, our beloved Primate, His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia, graciously tonsured the monks with earnest affection in the presence of his assistant hierarchs, Their Graces Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, Bishop Emilianos of Meloa, and Bishop Elpidios of Kyaneon. The Monastery was further blessed to welcome on this day the Very Rev. Abbot of the Holy Monastery of Pantanassa (Mangrove Mountain, NSW), Father Eusebius, and the blessed Abbess of the Sacred Monastery of the Holy Cross (Mangrove Mountain), Mother Philothei, the Very Rev. Father Prochoros Anastasiadis, in addition to its own former Abbot, the Very Rev. Father Kyriakos Michael (now head priest at the Parish of the Resurrection, Kogarah, NSW). His Eminence, Their Graces, the Reverend Abbots and Abbess expressed profound encouragement to the young monks, emphasising, among other things, their many virtues, at the same time emboldening them to remain obedient, simple, patient, and kind-hearted in their lifelong ascetic contests. Our dear Archbishop also highlighted the comfort that he himself feels in knowing that the noetic prayer will be offered for all at the Holy Monastery by the brotherhood while many of the clergy noted that this historical moment would not have been possible without His Eminence’s love and support.
May our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, strengthen his young servants in the angelic life. For more information, please see the following article kindly published by VEMA Newspaper.
